Marble is a metamorphic rock that it is created from the metamorphism of Limestone. This metamorphic process causes a complete re-crystallization of the original rock into an interlocking mosaic of calcite, aragonite and/or dolomite crystals. Metamorphism is normally due to changes in physical or chemical conditions. The temperatures and pressures which are necessary to form marble normally destroy fossils and sedimentary textures present in the rock.
Pure white marble is created by the metamorphism of very pure limestone. Coloured marble has characteristic swirls and veins, this is due to various mineral impurities such as clay, silt, sand, iron oxides, or chert which were present as grains or layers in the limestone before metamorphism.
Marble has a wide variety of types, it can look sophisticated or simple, warm or cool, elegant or rustic due to its wide range of colors and various surfaces from the smooth to the rouge finishes creating many different types of ambience. It is available in many different sizes and has a wide range of colors available.
Natural marble is heat resistant, mold and mildew resistance, exultant burn resistance and medium porous. Density 2563 kg/cu.m, Moh's scale hardness 3.
It is used in residential and commercial bathroom vanities, tub and shower surroundings, floorings, fireplace surroundings, furniture and transaction tops, sinks, bathtubs, wall cladding and stairs. Marble is also commonly used in the art world for statues.
